A Prayer for the Beginning of the School Year

Dear Lord, 

Humble those who are prideful and haughty.

Comfort those who are distressed and worried.

Be closer than a brother to those who are left out and lonely.

Grant wisdom to those who are eager to learn.

Teach patience to those who are restlessly anxious.

God, let Your love saturate the hallways of schools around the world. May all students, teachers, and parents be filled with wisdom from Your Word this academic year. Give boldness to those who believe in You to spread the Gospel. As students learn, as teachers teach, and as parents discipline, help them all understand that You are our ultimate source of wisdom. Without You, we are nothing; we are dumb, we are lost, we are inadequate. But through the work of Jesus, we are given purpose and meaning. We are known, we are found, and we are granted good things. You alone, Lord, are worthy of all praise and worship. May this school year be one of peace, hope, love, and joy. I pray all these things in Jesus’ name. Amen.
